The purpose of this work is to improve water fluxes estimation on the continental surfaces, at interannual and interseasonal scale (from few years to decennial time period). More specifically, it studies contribution of the incoming SWOT satellite mission to improve hydrology model at global scale, and using the land surface model ISBA-TRIP. This model corresponds to the continental component of the CNRM (French meteorological research center)'s climatic model.

The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission aims to increase our knowledge of the global water cycle by providing 2D measurements of terrestrial and ocean water surface elevations (WSE). For the first time, SWOT will provide high accuracy heights and slopes of rivers 100 m wide and greater for the majority of the globe. Here, we present new measurements of river height and slope from AirSWOT, the SWOT mission's airborne analog.

The five Hydro-ST Cal/Val projects / posters presented in this session mostly deal with Validation (not with instrument calibration), mostly deal with the 1-day orbit, and only take place in Americas.

VASHYB - Validation of Altimetric Satellites for HYdrology in Brazil
PI: Daniel Medeiros Moreira (08-Feb-18). The objective of this project is to propose an ambitious program of deployment of in-situ stations on some major Brazilian Rivers for the validation of the future altimetric satellites, namely ESA's SENTINEL-3 missions and the NASA/CNES mission SWOT.
